Joseph L. Jorizzo, MD

Joseph Lucius Jorizzo, MD was born the son of Italian immigrants in New York State. His father was a physician. He trained in dermatology at the University of North Carolina and received additional training at St. John’s Hospital for Disease of the Skin in London, England.

After beginning his academic career at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Dr. Jorizzo left to start the dermatology program at Wake Forest University. An excellent clinician, he concentrated on rheumatologic conditions and those skin disorders related to other medical conditions. Later in his career, he split time between practices in North Carolina and New York City. Dr. Jorizzo served as Vice president of the AAD, mentored a voluminous number of students, residents, and faculty, and is highly regarded by those in the field of dermatology.
